It looks like the costing algorithm still use old I identified the bug and filed https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/IMPALA-13644. I have a patch to fix it, but prefer to solve it after IMPALA-13465 & IMPALA-13086 and before IMPALA-2945 from this relation chain.
