For what it's worth. There must be a way of systematically determining
your resource and processes and then determining which resource your are
having a problem with or which process is not running once you get the
system running.
I find this difficult because some processes only show up when they are
running, which makes sense and the process that may not have gotten
properly initialized may not be one that is always running. The
so-called boot problem results most probably because of a process or
resource that cannot be fully initialized. As has already been
mentioned it may be a problem following the actual boot like a missing
or improper module or some other problem. One could always check to see
if the required services were ALL running and if one of them wasn't that
might be a clue as to where the problem might lie. If it isn't too much
of an inconvenience it might be worth while to do a complete reinstall
from scratch. Depending upon the distribution there might be
conflicting processes although I can't say I've ever seen that with RH.
Being a very bad guesser I would guess that the problem came out of an
installation that went bad somewhere along the way.
Bye-thanks, TED
I'm beginning to believe that if it doesn't work right off the bat then
don't do any serious work on it until it does work right off the bat.
Check your installation carefully. You've got nothing to lose.
