Ok... Just been sticking my nose in the RedHat 7.0 system I've
been diagnosing and, low and behold, I find these lines. Is this from a
RedHat 7.0 system? It is certainly not that way on my RedHat 6.1 or
6.2 stations.
At this point (and my investigations are not quite complete yet,
we are in the validation phase) I'm 99% sure that pump is SOOO busted
on RedHat 7 that it is virtually useless. It not only fails trying to
renegotiate a new lease, but it appears to fail even trying to renew
a static lease! That makes it basically worthless for any system that
is going to be up for longer than a lease period, whether the leased
addresses are changing or not.
I can't say for absolute certainty, but I just don't think that
pump was this totally brain damaged on 6.1 and 6.2 systems. I was, at least
for a while, running pump with my RoadRunner broadband cable modem on the
RedHat 6.1 system and never had it go braindamaged like what I'm seeing
on the 7.0 system. I didn't have it up long enough that it had to
renegotiate a new address, though. I did have it up long enough that it
had to renew the current lease several times, though (I have tcpdump traces
even showing those renewals). The pump with 7.0 seems to lack even that
level of capability.
