Actually, it's 3.0.5.. And yes, the new XFree 4.0.1 packages from Rawhide
built just fine and run well here. YMMV. I've got XFree 4.0.1, plus the
Nvidia 0.9-4 GLX code, for 4.0.1 running great. Something to be careful of
however.. rpm 3.0.5 has the "habit" of stripping any binary it can get
its hands on, even kernel modules and XFree driver modules, both of which
get *extremely* unhappy when stripped. To abate this problem, insert this
into your .spec file:

%define __spec_install_post /usr/lib/rpm/brp-compress

put that somewhere near the top.

: the installer from www.xfree86.org, but I believe the Rawhide stuff has some
: added patches in them for RHL.

My only complaint about the XFree 4.0.1 packages that got built from the SRPM
out of Rawhide is the fact that xfs doesn't seem to work, so I had to list my
fonts in the XF86Config file myself.

Be aware, you'll also have a number of other packages out of Rawhide that
you'll have to upgrade to, like xinitrc, initscripts, etc. The new
initscripts package starts the move to an FHS compliant init setup. FHS
calls for /etc/(init.d|rc0.d|rc1.d|...|rc6.d) as directories for the init
process. In the release you'll look at when you upgrade initscripts,
these directories are symlinks...
