I'm not sure which chip is on the first card (see below); it should
be somewhat supported. Have you looked at your XF86Config file?
It should be in /etc/X11. I'm not sure why Xconfigurator doesn't
work. There should also be a link from /etc/Xll/X -> your X server
binary, like this:
[sarnold@horton sarnold]$ ls -l /etc/X11/X
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 30 Dec 17 1998 X -> ../../usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_VGA16
RedHat 6.2 may support more graphics cards; you could try
installing that (if you can get a copy). Linuxmall.com has $1.89
(US) CDs, free if you buy something (eg, a book).
It looks like XFree 3.3.6 supports the Rendition V2100 with the
SVGA server, so the above link should point to .../XF86_SVGA.
However, they have discontinued development of the 3.3.6 code in
favor of 4.0 (the current release is 4.01). RedHat 6.1 may use
3.3.5 (I don't have 6.1 installed anywhere at the moment, so it's
difficult to check) so you might be out of luck. Go to:
http://www.xfree86.org
for all the info. There are also lots of comments in the
XF86Config file, but it'll take a little effort to become somewhat
proficient. You may want to try a different (more compatible)
video card. The last Diamond card I had (a Viper V330 with Riva
128 chip) never worked right with any windoze drivers, but it
worked fine with XFree86. Go figure...
Don't give up though; once you get X to do what you want, you'll
wonder why you ever messed with windoze video drivers in the first
place.
