OK, first thing to do is restore all of your /etc/pam.d/* files to their
original state.  Did you back them up?  If not, reinstall the packages
that provide those files.  If you don't understand PAM, don't change
them.  It will have unexpected results on the security of your system 
;)

Now, I'm not using the UW-IMAP server, provided by Red Hat, but I assume
that you are.  So... what does your /etc/hosts.allow look like?  And
/etc/pam.d/imap? You're getting this error when you log into IMAP?  
"tail -f /var/log/messages" to make sure that this error pops up at the
same time that you connect to the IMAP server.  What mail client are you
using?  Try "pine".
