I think I'm going to order the one from http://www.sparco.com the mambox for
$199 and just use it to play mp3 cds. Should be shipping April 7th...or so they
say. 45 second buffer too nice for the car. Just use the line-out and hook it
into your car stereo system rather than using one of those cassette adapters.
At home I have 27GB for mp3's and other stuff and use a $20 remote control with
a receiver on the serial port. The driver is GPL and was written by Fredrik in
Sweden to control xmms. If you have a laptop with linux then just use the
serial port you could use this remote instead of a keyboard or mouse.
I've modified the buttons.c to support the big keys (vol up/down and prev/next
song by touch) and added keys so it pops up xmms display, playlist, and
equalizer. I can send you my patch. I only modified buttons.c but actually
Fredrik told me most everything I needed to do and the necessary code...
basically just cut/paste. Increased vol increments to 5% instead of 1% and also
scanning songs by 5 second increments rather than 1 second...it's really easy to
modify the keys to your liking also.
