Squirrelmail doesn't need rpm installation.
You just put the files in a folder inside the webserver and that's
all!!!! Why you will use RPM when you don't need it at all???? WHY??

Standardization of file locations, ease of upgrades, ease of management, ease of replication to other servers, ease of application for patches (security or otherwise), and of course, ease of installation.

1. rpm -Uvh squirrelmail-x-x-x-x-x-.rpm
2. Run conf.pl
3. Done.

How is that more difficult than doing it manually? Why would you do it manually when RPM is so much easier???? WHY??
