No, you didn't miss anything.  Sorry, I must have misread your earlier
post.  FWIW, I don't know of any problems compiling the *kernel* with
2.96 and that has, in fact, been the recommended compiler for RH for
some time.  It's only when you start compiling things like libc that
compatibility problems arise.

Also, I use 3.2 exclusively now and don't have any problems.
