Because, IMHO, you have been misled. It is the underlying OS that is
a majority of the problem when it comes to Win95 and NT.
Why? Because the code is just plain bad in many places. An application
cannot work correctly if the underlying OS has problems.
As a prime example, I'm sure your seen, or heard, the infamous crash of
Win98 at Comdex, where they were trying to show how the OS will detect the
addition of a new piece of hardware to the USB port. They connected the
scanner and the OS spit out one of the infamous "oops" error messages and
promptly crashed. Can't blame that on the application, other than the
application was the OS. IF it can mishandle its own stuff, just think
about all of the mishandling that it does with applications.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that the application code can be just as bad.
It is just that if they can't get the OS right, how are application
programmers expected to get the application to work.
