Another factor with a 9.1Gb drive in the system can be the partitioning & how 
lilo views that drive.  On a 9.1Gb drive you should, even with LBA, have on 
the order of 1107 cylinders on the drive.  I get warnings from lilo all the 
time.  Boots fine, but lilo complains a lot. 8^)
