I think I misinterpreted your question. remote administration hmmm..... it is possible to remotely administer a gateway configured as a firewall if there is a VPN connection to the firewall or else its one big waste of time. So you can telnet to the mashine or ssh whatever and configure the gateway but not sure of the firewall. After configuration then you can accept VPN connections thereby making remote administration possible.
