Hrmf. That's the menu that I was looking for (and expected), with
the options to choose a specific cdrom driver. But I was never
presented with that menu, so I assumed that this had been removed
from the installer boot disk!

Still, it is a good question as this issue has hit me before.
I've had other situations in the past trying to install onto (or
from) media that had no drivers with the installer, even though
kernel drivers were available for it. (In one case it was a weird
scsi controller IIRC, but that's mostly irrelevant). What I
resorted to then was to rebuild a kernel "identical" to the
installer's, putting the driver modules I needed into the install
disk (or did I compile the support into it directly? Can't recall
exactly). It worked.
