The problem is that the kernel which is copied to the hd was build to turn
off the cpuid of the PIII processors. For some reason the kernel mistakes
the Duron for a PIII. You need to boot your system with an external
source, e.g. Slackware Boot Disk and recompile the kernel with the cpuid
feature turned off.
