That's a good idea.  Maybe they'll accept that :-)

So far I have rpm, egcs, and glibc compiling & running under i586/i686. 
(And cross-compiling too.  I've built i586 versions on my i686 and vise
versa.)

I'll put some shell-archives together & upload them, then.

I figure, getting the source RPMs to compile under i586/i686 is the
first step.  Finding a C compiler that can build good native i586/i686
versions can be a separate task.
