I would agree BUT I hope we are wrong. In earlier times (5.2 if I remember
correctly), RedHat did update/re-master the cdroms they were selling and this
caused a lot of problems -- depending on WHEN you bought a copy, you got a
different set of rpms.
Unannounced changes are bad. However, how about an announced change. That is,
release 6.1.1 which is just the basic updates to install. Offer a minimum cost
update package of just the cdroms (although the shipping costs could make this
still a problem). Also cut updated iso files. Unfortunately, these installer
issues are bad press for RedHat and make it difficult for the less than expert
to install the system. I hope something can be done.
I have not tested them yet but I believe that the image updates will work.
BUT, I cut my own updated cdrom image with maintenance applied for use on
several systems (plus it has some "tailoring" and added rpms). The "problem"
is going to be to figure out just where the files on the "update" image should
be placed in the RedHat/instimage directory tree.
