AC coupled off grid?  Sounds like a good time to go DC coupled.

Mac,

SMA tech support told me this usually indicates a failing transformer so as Marco suggests, the patient does not have long to live.  I've seen a couple of these at 10+ years of service on the inverter.

Was kind of regards

    Hello Wrenches,

I've got a customer that has an issue with their ~10 yr old
SB8000US connected to a quad stack of Sunny Island system
    that's off-grid.

It looks like it's on and off, trying to make power but seems to
think there is a problem on the AC side. Do you have any advice as
to what may be going on? Anything that I can do that may not
require replacement?  Very tough communicating to SMA while on
site and of course, this always happens on Friday night.

    Thanks!
