I live off grid in Florida, fully permitted with no issues. We've done off-grid 
systems for typical 3000 sq' homes with AC, pools, etc...

The whole "illegal to live off-grid in FL" is total BS.

What happens if you don't pay your utility bill? They disconnect your service!

Essentially the client is paying the utility the minimum fee to be the
backup to the solar system, allowing the client to use a smaller battery
system, for the few days the battery system is not sufficient the grid
kicks in a covers it. That's a great deal, makes a lot of financial sense.
No need for a generator, AGS, fuel, huge battery systems. I think it's a
lusy deal for the utility, they get to be the backup but get little or no
revenue.
