First .. why are you grounding a portable system? It's not required. In [29 CFR 1926.404(f)(3)(i)], OSHA states the frame of a portable generator need not be grounded (connected to earth).
If it's a fuel-powered generator, the NEC 250.34 states the frame may serve as the ground as long as normally non-current-carrying metal parts of equipment and the equipment grounding conductor terminals of the receptacles are connected to the generator frame. This is even more applicable if the system is all low-voltage DC only.
