Take the Sabbath rest. Seriously. Take Sunday and make it a day for nothing
but unscheduled, spontaneous right relationship with God, family and
friends.

Pre-brain bludgeoning, when I was working full time, in graduate school and
in diaconal formation, and married with our first on the way, I was utterly
frazzled. Something had to shift. For me, Sabbath was Saturday (too much to
do on Sunday), so no errands, no homework, no reading of theology nothing
scheduled ahead of time. It was like Christmas morning every Saturday to
wake up and have an entire day completely unscheduled to spend with God,
family, and friends how things spontaneously happened. It rejuvenated me,
help put everything in perspective, and restore right relationship
everywhere else. Turns out that when you give God the seventh day for rest,
you get more don on the other six than you do with all seven! Amazing.

With abandon,
Patrick
