Heh.  Yes, there are some interesting divisions of labor in the French economy 
that are just a bit different than in the US.  In 2002 I went with friends on a 
tour of the Alps from Grenoble to Nice.

One of the other guests at the gite near Bourg-d'Oisans was half an a 
Francophile husband-and-wife team, who traveled in France several times a year. 
 His comment on this was "the French have a love of bureaucracy, delighting in 
making up rules so that they can ignore them."

The stereotype the French did live up to was cooking.  My goodness, a nation of 
fine cooks!
