I ran one on my Quickbeam for a couple of years. Only problem I ever had was
with a raincoat strapped to the rack (inadequately). A sleeve got loose, and
managed to wrap itself around one of the long stays and into the spokes. Bent
the stay a bit (deflection maybe 15 degrees). I bent it back and ran it for
another year or so, with no problems. But it did suggest to me that some kind
of bag on top of the Platrack makes sense. I used a Freight Baggage porteur
style bag, which worked really well, and also a Sackville Slickersack (which
was designed for the Platrack), which was great for work clothes and the like -
you can put folded clothes in there and they come out at the other end looking
great. Basket on the Platrack might work just as well.

I don't seem to have any pics of the rack with the Freight Baggage bag, but
here are a couple with the Slickersack:

And here's a pic of the rack alone with the offending raincoat, right after it
got offensive (you can see the kink or bend in the left rack stay, after I bent
it back):

I used mine daily on my Quickbeam for 4 years in Denver locking the bike up to
all sorts of everything without ever bending/breaking those stays. I found it
very useful for carrying oddball items that wouldn't normally fit in a small
Wald basket. I kept a bungee net attached to it most of the time.

some random pics of it in use...

OkDokee,

So i've been using a basket on my Nitto Mini Front for about a year, overall
happy with it, but with heavier loads it was a little wobbly (it was secured
with many zip-ties) it was never dangerous but i just wanted something a little
more secure to zip-tie to so picked up a platrack second-hand.

Now that i have it on there, wow, those stays that extend down to the dropout
are really out there, i just have it in the bike-stand at the moment, so maybe
it's just a spatial/visual perception issue, but it looks like a wide stance.
My question is for those who use the platrack on a regular basis, any issue
with the stays extending so far out to the sides? Any other issues i'm not
aware of with this rack?
