I used mine daily on my Quickbeam for 4 years in Denver locking the bike up to all sorts of everything without ever bending/breaking those stays. I found it very useful for carrying oddball items that wouldn't normally fit in a small Wald basket. I kept a bungee net attached to it most of the time.
