I have XTR low-normals (also known as rapid rise) on two bikes, and given a choice I wouldn't use anything else. I do have two other bikes with "normal" shifting (not enough low-normals to go around right now), but it's not an issue to go back and forth - they all have different kinds of shifters anyway. I suspect that if the low-normal style had been developed first, nobody would have bothered with the other way. What's the point?
