Personally I think shellac is definitely the way to go with Newbaums. I
prefer the feel of more rather than less when it comes to coats.

The other advantage is that it definitely keeps the tape looking cleaner
for longer, a lot longer with touchups. As I like brighter colors I find it
doesn't take me long to make tape look awful if I haven't used shellac.

I've tried soaking my removed tape in alcohol to clean out the old shellac
and, like Aaron, have used bits and pieces for a variety of things, but not
retaping my bars.

Lately both my Rivs have moved on to Albas and cork grips on which I also
prefer a nice shellac coating. Go figure. :-) Basically I just like shellac.
