Storage conditions and UV can negatively impact tires, especially sidewalls.
The last pair I ran was pretty old - they got swapped out when I started
running Jack Browns and I had to force myself to remount them to wear them
out. But, they hit threads on the tread about the same time the sidewall was
just starting to get ugly (no holes certainly, no specific problems, just
getting to that point where it looked and felt a little crackly in places.)

But, again, the condition would be something I'd attribute more to the age
of the tires than the tires themselves.
