I have Suntour XC Pro dérailleurs on two bikes. They work fine with friction shifting in either 6, 7 or 8 speeds. If you want to use Accushift thumb shifters , Suntours version of indexed shifting you will need a Suntour hub and cassette IMO. The cassette spacing is slightly different than shimaNo's of the same size and the freewheel housing spline is different too.
BTW.. where are these dérailleurs you speak of....
