Nice post Kelly. I feel like I've had a similar experience. That said,
I was out yesterday for my second century ride of the year which I did
in platform pedals, MUSA knickers and a fair amount of luggage/rackage
on the bike. This really works well for me on my own solo rides and
when I want to go at my own pace. But with the upcoming brevet series
I know I'll be back in bibs, on SPDs and will trim down the luggage/
rackage on the Hilsen. I do have a dedicated custom rando bike in the
works (http://cycles-j-bryant.blogspot.com/) but it might not be ready
by the first brevet. I did a 200k at the end of the year last year in
platform pedals, MUSA shorts and a medium Sackville bag and it was fun
but I just know I'll want to streamline things and push it, hence the
changes. It'll be my fourth time doing this brevet and I'm hoping,
like last year, to finish under 8hrs. I've done the route enough at a
leisurely pace that I'm fine pushing the pace for brevet.

I do love the versatility of the Hilsen. I'm looking forward to when I
have my rando bike and the Hilsen can return to lazy country bike
mode.
