You might also check out the new Alfine 11. It's completely redesigned and, dare I say, now a viable competitor with the Rohloff.... and about half the price of the Rohloff.
That said, the Alfine 11 rear spacing (135) is the same as the Rohloff, so respacing is still an issue.
