+1 on Diamond Gusset. I stopped wearing denim years ago. Couple years back afte GP endorsed Diamond Gusset as a good MUSA product I figured I would try a pair for the heck of it. I have three pair and like them for winter riding. I get them a little loose so I can wear long merino skivvies underneath when it is real cold.
Two other candidates from Filson: Mackinaw Field Pants: http://www.filson.com/products/mackinaw-field-pants.14010.html?fromCat=true&fvalsProduct=mens/pants-shorts&fmetaProduct=1011 Very rugged and very warm! Cannot stress the second enough. These appear to be designed for people working outside in Alaska or on the range in Wyoming. I bought a pair but can only wear them riding on the coldest January and February days here in Northern Illinois. Any time else they are too warm. Whipcord Pants: http://www.filson.com/products/whipcord-pants.14009.html?fromCat=true&fvalsProduct=mens/pants-shorts&fmetaProduct=1011 After my experience with the Mackinaws, I figured these will work better in Illinois. Just received a pair. Has not been cold enough to wear them yet. They appear to allow plenty of movement and should be comfortable.
