I just did my 3 day tour on a compact double (46/34) with a Sheldon Brown Century Special cassette (13-30) and it was fine. I guess there's some gear duplication with this combo but whatever, out of sight, out of mind, the bike worked fine and my legs were able to keep turning the cranks. I start thinking about gear ratios and my eyes glaze over and I go into a coma... I was probably only carrying 20lbs of gear if even that but I did take in some long climbs that definitely kicked up in parts. Still, I wish Sugino would make a crank reminiscent of the TA Cyclotouriste crank. Maybe I'll have to try the VO offering although I'm not entirely confident about their quality. I'm not sure why.
For a dedicated touring bike I wouldn't hesitate to use a triple. --mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
