As I say above, I mounted 700x60 BAs on a custom touring frame. My bike was not a 29er - BAs fit the Riv Atlantis as well. I have also ridden a 650b frame with Hetres. My road frame, though wide enough to fit BAs was custom speced for 700x32 tires. The added size of the BAs made the bike higher than I liked. The ride was cush and did not seem terribly slow to me. I am not a fast rider in any event. The Hetre equipped 650b frame did not put me up as high as the 700 BA frame. The Hetres are very cush tires. The ride was livelier than my 700 BA frame - but then the bike was designed for event rides, not self supported touring. I can not say unequivocally that Hetres allow faster riding. They are lighter, more narrow tires than the BA. All else being equal, if I were on a beach or a gravel or pot hole filled road, I would rather the BAs. Otherwise, Hetres are great. Before doing the conversion, you are going to want to be sure your bike will fit a Hetre. Hetres may not be BA width, but are still big tires.
