"I'd love to see another collaboration between Rivendell and either
QBP
(Surly/Salsa) or Merry Sales (Soma). Similar to the Bleriot
arrangement
they had. Let Grant design and spec it, let them sell it. TIG welded
&
powder coated would be awesome for this application. Let the
distributor
worry about the on-line low-balling. Just have that Rivendell touch
in the
design and components. Something similar to the idea of the LHT or
Casserole."

THe thing is...there already is a Surly and they do that niche well.
Even Grant will tell you do get a Surly if that is your budget and you
don't mind not having lugs. So why get the headache of trying to jump
into that market in that specific way. I personally wouldn't want to
see a Riv without lugs. There is the Soma/Riv mash up coming next
year apparently and I AM very interested in that bike.

I don't consider any of my bikes "beaters" but I don't handle any with
kid gloves either. I ride them the way they were intended to be ridden
and anything that happens, happens. I think bikes look great when
new, clean and shiny but I also love the look of a well loved bike
that has been ridden and shows it.
