pedal float just means that your foot can move around on the pedals, and my understanding is that some clip systems have some extra degrees- of-freedom built-in. If you foot is locked in one position on the pedal, it might lead to RSI (repetitive stress injury). If it keeps hurting, you should have a doctor who specializes in sports-related stuff take a look at it, but otherwise I'd recommend giving it some rest.
