I’ve also read where some folks keep a small piece of rigid foam in their bike bag to wedge between tire and fender to equalize the “pressure” exerted on the fender by the 1Up bar. Quotes around “pressure” because you don’t need that much...certainly not enough to damage a fender. Nice idea, but I never had to use it.
