As a point of reference, "back in the day" (when "mountain" bikes still used flat handlebars, thumb shifters, and no suspension) light-weight aluminum bars were becoming all the rage for mountain bikes; Answer/Easton was introducing the Taperlite and Hyperlite bars in a variety of zany anodized colors and competitors were following suit. I remember Salsa bucked the trend for a long time and offered their "Moto" handlebar in butted 4130 chromoly. The weight was fairly comparable to an aluminum bar and the claim was that it was more durable and that it offered better vibration damping properties than the aluminum bars.
