A cheaper seatpost with decent setback is the Kalloy Uno SP-267. Am using one on my non-Riv touring bike. Tougher to find in silver, but Universal has them in stock. (Probably an LBS could order it too.) http://tinyurl.com/ycf3u44
Have also been using the Tektro 720's on my Hillborne since the first build. Have had no problems with stopping issues. Besides pad changing, might want to experiment with the height of the straddle cable.
