@Neil -- The 700x42 Cazaderos run under my Tektro 559's just fine on my Sam. They ride nicely for knobbies and are enough for the offroading I do (I don't like rooty, rocky MTB trails).
My thinking is the same as yours, even using Roman's photo as inspiration. My 62cm Sam's a little offroady now with the Cazaderos, short-drop Soma Hwy 1 bars (I still want to try Albastache) as an alternative to the Noodles, and I went to a IRD (Sheriff) Lobo 46/30 double crankset. I've also swapped with black components from my other bikes (wheels, crankset, seatpost) just for something different than what it's been. And I flip between spd's and platform pedals when the mood strikes me for a change.
