Tom,
I used my S1 for a few years as a daily commuter in SF and Portland. Your 
use sounds different, but for riding in the city, a pair of Nitto Dove bars 
were excellent. Less width made busier, more crowded streets easy to 
navigate. With no need for bar end shifters, the less expensive Dove bars 
were a good fit.
