Lots of iterations of wool caps that cover the ears to a balaclava that tucks into my base layer top (haven't tried PJWs top w/ hood) but I always add a helmet cover. when it gets cooler.
40°F and rain this morning, will be using all the tricks. This is always the worst weather for a commute. Colder with wet snow is better than rain between 33° and 45°.
