Thanks for all the ideas! Keep them coming, please. As for switching to an 8-speed cassette: Spacer was between the casssette and the wheel when I used a 7-speed. But I think there is no reason why an 8-speed cassette, on an 8 speed freehub, on a Rambouillet should not work with an XD2 triple or low wide double with Deore derailers.
The wheel is a 650b 36 spoke GB Rim/LX 135 hub built by College Park Bikes, an olde Riv dealer. The wheel is only about 3 years old. Rambouillet was made for 130 or 135 dropouts. So should be fine for use with an 8-speed cassette. *I will take a look at all the pivot points and clean/lube them and see if that helps.* *I might also try moving the derailer.* But when I looked at it, the chain was rubbing neither the front nor back inside surface of the cage, but the middle, on that stamped bump that those Deore derailers have. Maybe a flat cage FD would be better. If it was flat there, then that would probably do it. *As for trying a new derailer, should I try a double or triple derailer? What about for the rear derailer? Short or long jockey arm? I guess has to be long to wrap all the chain for the wide range cassette?* I like the SunXCD FD looks. And I have heard others here state that it works as a triple, too, for their Rivs, IIRC. But I think Microshift makes it. Just have to figure out which Microshift it is. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
