Half step plus gearing is great ! I used to run a 24/44/48 with 13-32 7 sp. FW on one of my bikes.

I had exactly the same crank setup with a 7 speed 13-34 cassette. It was very nice, but honestly these days crossover arrangements have left HSG behind (in my opinion).

My latest, a 1963 Jack Taylor Sports, is running 24/36/46 with a custom 13-32 8 speed cassette made from a 12-32 by replacing the 1st position 12 with a 13. That gearing beats anything I've experienced with HSG in every possible way.

Since I still have the same FW's I may run it again if I get another bike that can take a large middle ring.

Perspective is funny, since I am quite familiar with gear that used to be 5,6 and 7. To me I could just as easily call an 11 speed cassette "kinda weird". I mean hey, I have 2 hands and I like triples and shifting with both of them :)
