I'm not a fan of SRAM chains. I would recommend a Shimano 6/7/8 chain, something like a HG-40. Also, do you have an extra derailleur you could try to use in place of the one you're currently using?Once I had a hell if a time trying to set up an old Shimano STX derailleur, switched it with another one which cleared up the problems. It's possible the problem one was bent or damaged. I have it labeled as parts so that I don't try to use it again.
