Kellie, I think the issue you're having is that both bikes in the title of this 
thread are aimed at the same spot: Touring bikes you can ride off road. Neither 
is intended for full-on "crash into boulders" mountain biking, and the only 
reason that caveat comes up is that some bonehead may actually try it. 

I think you should see an Appaloosa in person and ride it, then decide if you'd 
rather have a new one of those or a used Atlantis. In my opinion, both bikes do 
the same stuff.
