Clayton, Exactly! Oversimplification maybe, but kinda what I meant earlier by
stealth. My point is if I see them, I postion myself properly then, it matters
little if they see me, I am off their RADAR, that does not mean I am invisible!
LOL
Of course, it's not always possible, that's when you have to insure you are
visible. Honestly, it's probably something most of us do without even
thinking about it.
This stealth mode was developed initially not to avoid my getting hit, but to
avoid people effing with me. Over 12 years of riding in Waco & Houston, the far
more likely scenario, when I was riding in those places is that if people saw
me they would A)Swerve towards me menacingly yelling obscenities B) throw
something at me (generally a beer bottle), etc.
In Houston one of my coworkers was riding her bike in her subdivision, when
she was struck in the back of the head by a bunch of kids joyriding in a car
with a 2" × 4" they had sticking out the window! Having a stealth mode
minimizes both threats.
Of course this only really works at night, in the daytime I used to define my
riding a style as riding offensively or maybe flamboyant is a better term.
Reality the days is whether we know it or not riding a bike has gotten a whole
lot easier. So much so that I generally have more problems with people being
overly courteous, then being rude or abusive.
