Fourth post down on this page are some pictures of an old MB-1 that a guy stripped to bare metal, added decals to and then, presumably, covered with a clear coat of his own:

And not something you'd want to do to an expensive frame, but certainly an option for a cheap, fun project, for someone who's willing to be diligent about maintenance, and/or who lives in an arid area like me.
