They already did this, and possibly since day one. I think it was like $15.00 a year, and you got free Readers, plus specials mailers and "member" pricing (check out the old catalogs), plus 5%-10% credit at the end of the year.
I can't remember when it stopped, but well into 2010 if memory serves.
