I think in this situation maybe Grant is OK, he's not handing out boatloads of
stuff.
Also, whoever said that our empathy ir lack thereof is colored by or
experiences is dead on! Its important to know the difference between
panhandlers and people who are just having a rough patch in life. It might be
hard for us to grasp, but not all people who appear to be homeless actually
are! On more than one occasion I have witnessed or been made aware of people
who make a nice living off street panhandling.
This tares at the plight of those who are truly in need.
the main reservation I might have with this is sometimes giving someone in that
situation something really nice like an expensive sweater has different
ramifications then you intended. Like they take it & sell or trade it for
something that has a fraction of its worth, in order to eat or get something
else they want or need. So your $50 sweater, gets traded for a nice lunch @
McDonald's!
Sometimes your damned if ya do & damned if ya don't, but hats off for trying!
