Set yhe Appaloosa up as a drop-bar bike? The Appaloosa geometry sure reads like a bike designed for upright bars, and it is specified as such. Also, because it has a threaded steerer and reinforced head tube lugs, you won't be cutting it down to lower the bars. It is compatible with drop bars, in the same sense that an early Ritchey mountain bike is compatible.
