The Surly Straggler <http://surlybikes.com/bikes/straggler> is also a nice bike. It's essentially a Cross Check with disc brakes (not retrogrouch-approved). But, it also comes in a 650b wheel size, which makes it a great fit for many ladies and shorter men, since 700c x 41 mm (Cross Check and 700c Straggler) makes for a pretty tall wheel.
